Narratives & QRs

This QR code activity is a wonderful way to show off student writing, and is a 21st Century take on displaying student work!

A few of the Common Core Anchor standards addressed in this project include:

W.3 Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, well-chosen details, and well-structured sequence of events.

W.4 Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.

W.6 Use technology to produce and publish writing and to interact and collaborate with others.

W.10 Write routinely over extended time frames and shorter time frames for a range of tasks, purposes, and audiences.

The students can write about really any narrative prompt! In this example, students were writing Spooky Halloween narratives.

Once the students were finished with their stories, we had them illustrate the beginning, middle, and end of their story using Drawing Pad. They then imported their illustrations into iMovie. Students did a voice over reading their writing for the movie.

Once the final iMovie was complete, we uploaded it to our DropBox account. By clicking "Share Link" in DropBox, it generates a URL that we used to create a QR code. (See the 'QR Codes' for directions on how to do this!)

The QR code was displayed on the wall along with the original writing project. When visitors & parents came into our classroom, they were able to see student writing, and scan the QR code to see the movie the students had created with illustrations and listen to the students reading their writing!
